A New Year, A New You

I know this may seem a little like a weight watchers commercial, but let's take a shot.

This year is going to be a big year for our family. We are going to make the necessary changes so that we can live healthy and be our best selves. So, I have come up with a plan to help all of us be motivated to start looking and feeling our best. It is a variation of "The Biggest Loser" for all who have seen the hit show on nbc. However, I dont want the focus to be the number on the scale as it is a lifestyle change. I dont want this to be something that lasts for a couple months or even a year, I want it to really be a change. Here are the basics...I am still working out the kinks and I am open to suggestion.

As a member of the biggest loser Davenport Edition:
  • Set goals to reach optimal fitness and health level

  • Commit to exercise at least 3 times a week

  • Healthier eating-not eliminating food, but eating in moderation

  • Support members and help meet their goals

  • Report monthly to the blog or email about progress
Everyone is able to participate. It doesn't matter if you are pregnant, nursing, or already at your goal weight...there is always room for improvement and we can all be healthier.

To Begin:

1. Write down 3 goals you would like to achieve. It should be measurable, realistic, and given a time frame in which it will be completed.
2. Share these goals via the blog or the email I set up. It is important to have accountability or this process won't work.
3. Report progress each month

Helpful tips:
  • Some members have found great success at weight watchers. It is so worth the money and truly a plan you can maintain.

  • You dont have to join a gym to exercise. Just MOVE more. Take walks, park further away from the grocery store, play outside with kids, etc.

  • I will periodically be posting motivational things so check back

  • The email address is davenportbiggestloser@gmail.com

  • The blog site is davenportbiggestloser@blogspot.com password davenport8-so everyone can access it and post helpful tip, advice, or struggles they may be having

THE REWARD
If we are all successful with our goals, the Parentals will sponsor a family trip.

I hope everyone takes this seriously and makes 2008 a year of getting fit and being confident with ourselves and our bodies.

Hey guys, Edon and I have started already. So far the Wii is a great to keep yourself moving and have fun. One thing that has helped Edon and I with our snacking problem is we stopped buying them at the store and instead bought frozen berries from Costco. A cup is a serving size and only 60 cals. They taste great and better than a bag of chips.

I'm in I'll work on Gordy. He's got pregnancy weight to lose (he says it was sympathy weight gain). I worked out this morning for an hour well 45 min with sammy on me and my legs burn. Now I do my weight class tonight. Now if I cut out ben and jerry's I should lose more calories than I consume.

This sounds great. Since I can't really exercise yet, my goal for this months is to actually eat my fruits and veggies everyday. That is an area that I am really struggling. And I need to cut down on my chocolate consumption. I know me and especially Grace will benefit from it.

I'm in, so long as the family trip isn't to Athol, Idaho. I have been working out this last week as well, mostly cartwheels and round-offs in the family room. You guys should try that. After 25 round-offs you can really feel the burn. I think that the ultimate winner of the competitions needs to wear the family gold thong provided by Brent.

My goal weight is 157 lbs. It is a stretch goal, but I want to fit into size 28 jeans.

-Some tips and my goals-
To promote better health one should be more concerned with exercise rather than weight loss alone. There should also be a plan to promote life time health not merely a diet to shed pounds. For me, I plan on exercising more. 60-90 min/day will help prevent cardiac disorders and promote weight loss. I will also make sure to get all of the vitamins and minerals that I need. Vitamin K is a tough one for me. The weight loss goals shouldn't be more than 10% of your current body weight (sorry Dave, you should work for 240-250lbs). Likewise my goal is 10%, I can then change that upon completion.

What if the family trip is a cruise? We haven't had a family cruise forever.
